Venue Options

Had some good discussions with people at #rdgtweetup on Wednesday evening about formats etc (and there were lots of people who I would have liked to talk with, but having arrived late, wasn't able to), but the immediate priority now is to secure a venue for the first event on Tuesday 10th November.

I've summarised some options and criteria below (culled from the wiki and other conversations I've had with people) So if you know of a venue which would meet some of (or all of!) the criteria then please let me know. Also feel free to add any other comments or criteria via the comments.

  • Location: Pref central Reading to make it easy for eveyone to get to/get home from.
  • Facilities: Private room (lets say to start with it would have to hold at least 20 of us and up to 40?) A wall which is suitable for pointing a projector at. Wifi preferable.
  • Other: Need to be able to use it for free. Would be good if bar prices are not too steep.

In my head I was aiming for a bar/pub or similar (because I like a beer with my geekness), but also aware that there may be options in office space / university etc that might work - interested in everyone's take on this.

How about RISC? They have a variety of private rooms upstairs, wifi etc. Good beer on tap and a good cause.

Phil House

Agreed! I personally love RISC.

RISC is great - also serves food - big room upstairs if enough people, or can cordon space at back.

Nice people too. (Ethical)

Also Great Expectations has spaces you can cordon off.

Not sure about wifi though
